Do you ever wonder why some people seem to achieve so much in life while others are left working their entire lives barely surviving? Drifting in life is when someone goes with the flow and is along for the ride. Living with purpose is when you have your sights set on exactly what you want to achieve with a deadline.
In today’s post find out my top 3 ways to figure out where you want to go in life and live with purpose. Have you ever looked back and wonder how you ever ended up where you are now? What choices, decisions, mistakes, and successes did you endure to end up where you are in this exact moment? I'm sure you have many stories that make up your journey.
Asking yourself questions about where you are now and where you want to go will help guide you to live a more meaningful and happy life. It’s no accident how you ended up where you are right now. For better or worse the choices you made over the previous years, weeks, and days have led up to today. Whether you believe it or not you are the reason you are where you are now. No one else is to blame for the circumstances in your life.
Sure, bad things happen to people every single day but so do great things. If you focus on the bad you will get more bad. By focusing on the good you will get more good! Are you and the people you are close to lost in this crazy adventure? Have you ever planned a day, week, month or year of your life? Most people take planning their annual vacation more seriously than their entire lives!
Drifting in life is no good and something you want to avoid at all costs. When you drift without a plan a decade can go by in the blink of an eye and guess what? You are exactly where you were a decade ago. Maybe you are a bit ahead or maybe a bit behind. But, overall things won’t have changed that much if you haven’t figured out exactly what you want to change.

Map out in a notebook, journal, or piece of paper where you are right now. Your income, health, close family members, friendships, lifestyle, activities, and hobbies. Is this the place you thought you would be at during this stage of your life?
Are you happy and satisfied with what you have accomplished to date and the life you live every single day? If not, why? If you don’t know where you are now how will you know if you’re making progress? Without taking the time to write down your current lifestyle it’s hard to create and measure changes.
If you don’t know where you want to go, how on earth would you ever get there? That’s like playing darts without a dartboard. Throwing pointy things at a wall isn’t fun no matter how young or old you are. You must have a clear vision of EXACTLY what you want in life. When I say exactly I do mean in every essence of the world. The sights, smells, people, feeling inside of you, everything in the greatest detail you can imagine.
Where do you want to live? Who are the friends you want to hang out with? How much do you want to work? Where do you want to work? How much money do you want in your bank account? What type of hobbies and activities do you want to spend your time doing?
The great thing about this step is you can create the life you’ve always wanted to live. Don’t doubt yourself or limit yourself in any way. If you could achieve ANYTHING in life and I mean anything without failing what would you do? Take some time and jot it down.
Well, now that you know where you are right now and have a vision of where you want to go, you must set small daily tasks to reach them. You can call these habits, goals, steps, checklists or anything else. The only important thing is that they get you closer to where you want to be in the end.
What steps do you have to take to lose 10 pounds, save $25,000, reach out to old friends and family, or go on a 6-month vacation? Figure out small actionable steps that will lead you to your vision and forget everything else.
By following these simple 3-steps you will figure out where you are now, where you want to go, and an action plan of how to get there. If you can follow these 3-steps you will be much further ahead of 98% of the population who are continuing to drift every day.
If you drift in life you will be less happy and unfulfilled in life. When you have something that gets you out of bed and excited to go in the morning you know you’re on the right track. Think back to Christmas morning when you were a kid.
The night before Santa comes to deliver all those wonderful gifts. There’s no way you’re sleeping in and no way you’re sleeping much that night at all. You are far too excited for the morning and the joy it will bring.
Not sure about your goals and future vision?
