Giving to others can be one of the most gratifying and joyful things one can experience. When you give to others you are expressing that you have more than enough and are living a life of abundance. To get more of anything such as money, friends, love, or time, you must commit to giving it first.
Allotting a small amount of income a month will help you to feel great and have a positive relationship with money. Lots of people say when they earn more or have more then they will have enough to give. From my own experience I can tell you this is a myth. I once told myself when I earn this much more than I make now it will allow me to help others.
Unfortunately, when that time comes when you earn more you also tend to spend more. This is called lifestyle creep. It’s when your lifestyle habits and items increase to what your income go up to. This can be a slippery slope for some as they still won’t have enough to give, ever.
Even if you only have an extra $100 a month, the power of giving $25 of that each month can be life changing for you. Giving truly helps you to receive more of anything. By helping others, you will in turn be opened to ultimately helping yourself.
Maybe it’s not money that you want to give but time. Dedicating even a small amount; say four hours a week can have a big impact on others around you. Figuring out what your priorities are in life and following that heading will lead to a better life. Having helped people on many occasions I can tell you it far outweighs any financial costs. The letters you will receive and the people you will meet will motivate you to continue to help and transform others lives.
Don’t wait to the “perfect time" to help those in need. Start today by figuring out where you could help. Whether from small donations to local charities you are passionate about to your own time helping others. If you want to donate each month, I suggest having a set number dedicated for that specific purpose. If you decide $100 a month is the number, then stick to accomplishing that each month. Don’t let other bills or items get in the way, because something will always come up.
Another fantastic benefit to donating money is the tax benefits. After the first $200 you donate each year, you can to claim 43.7% in British Columbia, Canada at the time of this writing. That means if you were to donate $100 per month or $1200 per year you would be eligible to get back over $500 of your donations on your tax return. This is a massive benefit for you and the people you are helping. You can recoup almost 50% of the costs back from what you give!
Giving starts with having a plan, and what you want to accomplish. You don’t want to give just to reap the benefits yourself but because of the impact you may have on others. I’m sure there are plenty of people who would give anything to be in your shoes. A lot of our normal day to day problems are not life threatening or matter all that much. I’m going to recommend two books that can kickstart you into giving more and understand why helping others is so valuable.

Stop Worrying and Start Living – Dale Carnegie
Remember, anytime you want to get more of anything in life the best way is to give it. There is no perfect time so starting now will work wonders. Prioritize what truly matters to you and give towards things you are passionate about. I hope this blog helped understand the power of giving.
