Are you someone who wants to enjoy your job each day? Are you someone who wants to get the most out of your career to maximize your success? You would be in the right place if you said yes to either of these questions. This one thing we’ll focus on today IS holding you back from career success. If you make a minor adjustment, you can change it and see immediate improvements.
You control this one thing. You determine your altitude by changing this in your life. If you haven’t guessed it yet - it’s your attitude.
Google defines attitude as a settled way of thinking or feeling about someone or something, typically reflected in a person’s behaviour.
Your attitude determines your altitude.
If you’re struggling with your job/career or life, making a slight attitude shift can change everything for you.
I’ve worked for many different companies in different industries. One thing I can say for sure is that it didn’t matter what industry or workplace I was in; the people who did well always had a positive attitude.
Those who fell behind hated their jobs, were the so-called victims of every situation and had a negative or poor attitude.
I will always choose someone with fewer skills, knowledge, or training, and a good attitude, over someone with all the credentials and a poor attitude.
I’ve gone through phases where my attitude slouched on the job. The results? Showing up later to work, leaving early, despising the boss or owner of the company.
When you have a bad attitude, you attract negative situations into your life. This leads to a more negative situation for you every day. It is the ultimate lose-lose.
The excellent news for you is that you have the power to control your attitude!
Yes, it can sometimes be tricky, especially if your emotions get the best. But, nevertheless, you control your thoughts and perceptions of your career every day.
I know what you may be saying to yourself… “But, Chris, it’s difficult to control my attitude when life is flying by. I’m putting out fires every minute and have trouble focusing or being in the moment.”
I’m going to share with you some surefire ways to ensure you can make a small attitude shift right now.
No matter how down and out you may be on your job, your boss, or your current circumstances, I’m positive (get it) that you have many good things going for you right now. Focus on the good, and you’ll get more good.
While this may sound similar to number one, it’s different. Practicing gratitude means being thankful for a few things daily, preferably every morning and night. It works best to write these down and be thankful for having them in your life. It could be the joy of waking up or a hot coffee in the morning.
This is a big one at work with colleagues. While I rarely got involved in office gossip, I never really understood the point of everyone getting together to complain, but it happens daily. Beware of this gossip and try not to join in. Avoid adding to the fire if your colleagues start talking negatively about something or someone. Instead, if you’re asked your opinion, say something positive and uplifting about the situation and move on.
Your environment greatly determines your thoughts, ideas, attitude, and life. Ensure you have a positive and supportive group of people you surround yourself with. You will also become defeated if you’re constantly hanging around defeated people.
While I have to say, I’m someone who is constantly on my team. I rarely struggle with believing in myself and knowing that I can make anything happen; this is where many others struggle. I’ve observed several people other the past couple of weeks who are down on themselves. I can see and feel the lack of confidence and belief they have in what they want to do. If you don’t believe in yourself, how will anyone else?
As you can see from the list, these are all basic things you can start working on now. You have the power to control your attitude each day. Focus on the good, practice gratitude, avoid gossip, have a positive circle, and believe in yourself!
People who have a good attitude are going places. I’m confident they’ll be more successful in their job, careers, and lives. If your attitude has started to slip lately, get ahold of yourself. Assess why it has gone for the worse; could it be the people you’re around or maybe the workplace you are in?
To blow up your life, you must focus on having a good attitude. I genuinely enjoy being around people who are positive and uplift me. I’ve always preferred working with people who are fun to be around and help out where needed.
